Online Training (Formerly Virtual Classroom) Sessions

We are pleased to offer our Red Wing Software customers an opportunity to learn more about CenterPoint via Online Training sessions. Online Training sessions provide you with in-depth information and explanations that allow you to learn more about CenterPoint from any location where you can access the internet (high-speed internet connection recommended). The sessions are presented live by one of our CenterPoint experts while you view the presenter's computer screen. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. The sessions are recorded and sent to you so you can refer to the information afterward.

Almost every Tuesday morning, I have the opportunity to join our amazing support team for a short meeting. We discuss recent issues they’ve helped customers with and ways that we might be able to make our customer experience better. We may talk about tweaks to the software, a better process to accomplish a task, or a recent common problem with an operating system update and how to help our customers solve it.
At a recent meeting, one of the topics was about an issue with ransomware. Ransomware is a malicious program that infects a computer by opening a file or clicking on a link in an e-mail that comes from an unrecognized source or may have even been forwarded by someone you know. This program typically prevents access to information on the machine until you pay a ransom to the individual that created the virus. The alternative is restoring a backup from a time before the computer was infected.
I bring this up to point out the importance of keeping your antivirus software and operating system up to date with current versions. As older versions of operating systems and software are phased out and not supported by the authors, the updates that include code that attempts to prevent these attacks are no longer available. The cost of keeping your technology (hardware and software) up to date is far lower than the cost of recovering from malicious activity.
As you create your budget for the year (which should be complete for 2020 by now) in addition to the normal budgeted items, you should include a line item for keeping your technology current.

Red Wing Windows Payroll Support Ends January 31, 2021

NOTE: This notification is for the Red Wing Software legacy product, which is called Red Wing Payroll (or Red Wing Windows Payroll). This notification is NOT in reference to CenterPoint Payroll, which is the current payroll system offered by Red Wing Software.
Red Wing Software will be discontinuing support services and product upgrades for the Red Wing Payroll Software on January 31, 2021. If you are still using the Red Wing Payroll Software for your business, it is important that you work with our staff to start the transition process to our flagship payroll product, CenterPoint® Payroll. There will be no upgrades, including 2021 tax table updates, or telephone support for Red Wing Payroll once support ends.
While Red Wing Payroll has been a solid and capable product for over 20 years, the underlying technology is out-of-date, and we cannot promise it will continue to run as operating systems change. There are also some new W-4 requirements that cannot be handled by Red Wing Payroll, so it is imperative that we transition our customers to newer software. (See the following article for URGENT information about the W-4 form changes.)
